 - Gimnasio Fontana

The Global Values and Global Citizenship project proposes an integrated vision of education in values, in which diversity is highlighted as a distinctive feature of an increasingly globalized world.

We promote the ownership, embodiment and practice of our institutional values in various facets of school and family life.

We educate students to be coherent, to have the capacity to establish assertive interpersonal relationships that allow them to confront the complexity of the world today, and to develop social sensitivity and a sense of solidarity.

Main Activities and Programs:

Classrooms in Peace:

Gimnasio Fontana has implemented an innovative program, developed by Los Andes University, in the Primary Section to prevent aggression and promote peaceful coexistence.

Among the strategies we have put into practice are: a curriculum for the development of citizenship skills in the classroom, workshops with parents, teachers and students.

The program that has been implemented at the school makes emphasis on four types of citizenship skills: emotional, cognitive, communicative and integrated.

We seek to promote the following abilities among our students and from a young age: empathic listening, assertiveness in management of emotions and establishing constructive dialogue with others.

Peace and Agreements Zone

The Peace and Agreement Zone is a space within the school, where anyone in the Fontana community can seek to solve disagreements or conflicts with their peers, through mediation and support from “Peace Mediators”. Peace Mediators are students from the Fontana’s Middle and High Schools, who voluntarily train to help others.

This program is the result of the evolution of the Conflict Management Group, created in 2006, established following the Hermes Program for Conflict Management at School, which was developed by the Bogota Chamber of Commerce.
