Curricular Integration - Gimnasio Fontana

Curricular Integration

Curricular integration is the underlying pedagogic principle of our education model at Gimnasio Fontana.  It creates and develops learning opportunities connected with the students’ immediate realities in all stages of life.

Curricular integration is the underlying pedagogic principle of our education model at Gimnasio Fontana.  It creates and develops learning opportunities connected with the students’ immediate realities in all stages of life.

This approach links all the knowledge areas taught in the School, while creating a link with the world as well. The aim is to help students learn within a context, with meaning, and from different perspectives.  Consequently, our students may, for example, learn mathematical concepts and apply them to science when predicting the effects of global warming; or learn physics through sports when analyzing movement and body dynamics.

Different learning experiences in various fields of knowledge are created using trigger questions identified as a result of the study of the political, economic, social and cultural realities of local, national and global settings.

Themes

Core themes teach human condition from a complex perspective, starting with the Individual-Society-Species triad. All curricular contents and disciplines are articulated from the perspective of these three overarching themes.

  • The body - Gimnasio fontana

    The body

The body is understood as a complex unit of human nature that integrates the physical, biological, psychological, cultural, social and historical realms.

The integration of all disciplines promotes understanding of what it means to “be human”.

  • Land ownership - Gimnasio fontana

    Land ownership

This concept is understood as the way in which humans settle, use or transform the land, bearing in mind ethical, cultural, political and social implications.

The integration of disciplines enables students to understand themselves as members of the human race on this earth, as part of nature, and also as an endangered species.

  • The City - Gimnasio fontana

    The City

The city is understand as a construct of culture; a body of customs, traditions, attitudes and feelings that go beyond the interactions of individual men and women, and beyond social affordances.
